Should I Upgrade or Should I Stay With OE?

What is Dual-Mass Flywheel?
By design, the dual-mass flywheel is to isolate torsional crankshaft spikes created by diesel engine during the overstressing power stroke. Dual mass flywheel separates the mass of the flywheel between the engine and the transmission. By separation, torsional spikes can be isolated and thus eliminating possible damage to the transmission components.

What is the cost to stay with Dual-Mass Flywheel?
When clutch wears, flywheel wears too. Since there are moving components in dual mass flywheel, chances of damage are much higher than solid flywheel. From previous experiences, most dual mass flywheels need to be replaced when doing a clutch job. Purchased separately, replacement of dual mass flywheel will run anywhere between $800.00 to $1,000.00. On top of that, you need a clutch kit which will run between $250.00 to $350.00. So, it will run in parts alone anywhere between $1,150.00 to $1,350.00 every time you need to do your clutch job.

What is the cost to upgrade to solid flywheel?
Kits including a solid flywheel and its matching clutch kit eliminating the need for a dual mass flywheel. Clutch disc was engineered to compensate the function of dual-mass flywheel. The initial cost of this kit is only $799.00 plus shipping. Once an upgrade is done on your vehicle, you don't need to buy an upgrade kit anymore. All you need to purchase on your next clutch job is a clutch kit (no more flywheel!!!!!!) which will run $299.00. And, of course, the cost of resurfacing your flywheel which can run anywhere between $35.00 to $50.00. So, all you spend on next clutch job is between $334.00 to $349.00 in parts compared to $1,150 to $1,350.
